West Seattle Noise invasion

It was a fun night at the Twilight Collective in the West Seattle Junction. Great sets by Prisonfood, PXKX, Noisepoetnobody , Masamitsu Fuji and everyone else. 

Masamistsu Fuji had a energetic fuzz blast finished with screaming.

After PXKX's set the whole place smelled minty fresh for the rest of the night.

Noisepoetnobody mellowed it out with analog bubbles.

Prisonfood finished the night with some bleak sounds and weird  test pattern visuals

Making Noise gets into Seattle True Independant Film Festival

Making Noise is a short experimental film featuring some northwest noise musicians, including my group phase3. It was just accepted to the STIFF festival, as well as the NW Projections Film Festival in Bellingham.

So after impacttestdummy played a couple of show using only our Iphones as sound sources I thought I wouldn't find anymore cool apps to manipulate sound with or they would be too expensive. Today I was browsing the iheartnoise messageboard and I found a post about the Jasuto modular synth app . It is amazing. Building sounds is easy or complicated what ever the user chooses. Trying out weird ideas it simple want to move an lfo from the input of one osc to another just slide across the screen. I just started playing with it, so I will post more later.

Noise in the Woods

I-90 to exit 38 onto SE Homestead Valley rd, turn left onto NF-9020, go approx 2 miles up the road, there will be a few signs up along the way

I won't be able to make it this weekend, but if you feel like checking out some metal and noise bands in the woods this weekend, head up to North Bend and check it out.

Last night was busy. First I went to Full Tilt Ice Cream to see Brizbomb. He has this huge rack with some analog synth modules and lots of effects running into a mixer and uses it to create some real cool sounds. I played some pinball and relaxed to his super low end sounds. I wondered how the crowds that are usually out in front of the bars next to the ice cream shop would react, and to my surprise some of them came in and checked it out.

Then I headed up to the Comet to see Poseur . The photo I took with my phone didn't turn out so good, but the show was great. I hadn't seen them since I was doing sound at the Crocodile back in 2002 and they opened up for the Mates of State. They sounded tight. I hadn't listened to the new cd too much, but I put it on this morning on my way in and I think I will be hearing it more and more.

Buddha Machine meets the Korg Mini Kp

I decided to put the first loop of the Buddha Machine into the Tape Echo of the Mini KP. Just a little experiment for this afternoon.

A chain of my analog and virtual analog synths and some effects making weird noises. It includes a Monotonic U-73, a Paia 9700 modular, a Nord Micromodular, a Yamaha Magistomp and a Boss DD-20.

Some more synth noise video

I thought I would make another video of the synth I built last year. I think it wants me to play it more. Thats why its so fuzzy.

It is a modular synth that comes as a kit from a company called Paia. I want to build some more synth modules, I just need to get around to buying them. Then putting them together. Than testing them. Than maybe I will make some more little videos. Sounds fun huh?

Building 27 at Sand Point, Magnuson Park

"The Seattle Phonographers Union improvises live with unprocessed field recordings drawn from the huge archive of sounds they have collected around the world and right here in local streets, pastures, and forests.

The SPU performs in the vast environment of a former aircraft hangar at Sand Point Magnuson Park, allowing the natural reverberation of this large space to influence their improvisation.

There is no seating at this performance; listeners will be free to come and go, their echoing footsteps another component of the sonic environment. Bring a cushion and/or blanket if you wish to sit.

The SPU features an all-star cast of noted Seattle-based sounds artists including Steve Barsotti, Pete Comely, Katie Gately, Mark Griswold, Doug Haire, Dale Lloyd, Perri Lynch, Rob Millis, Toby Paddock, Steve Peters, and Jonathan Way."

It looks like it should be a cool performance. I don't know how long I will spend out in the cold on a Sunday evening, but I definitely want to check it out.

I'm also looking forward to the new impacttestdummy recording. We head into the studio in the later part of August. I have some real cool ideas to work on. I think its going to sound good.

Seattle noise podcast

I added a new blog to the list, trash stratum. They released a podcast of Seattle noise this week that is an awesome sampling of local noise acts. They also calender just about every Seattle noise show, so if you are wondering where to go to see some noise in Seattle check out trash stratum.

The first podcast titled " Undergrowth" features 6 tracks from cassette's and Cd's of local noise and information on upcoming shows in between tracks. Some of my favorite tracks are from Blue Sabbath Black Cheer and …Wind Swept Planes…. They were great for breaking up the space of my work day. Check it out.

Can't and Naomi

Last night I headed out the the "Fried Chicken Barge" out on Airport Way for the Can't/ Naomi noise tourism show. I arrived a little late and missed the opening acts. I caught the end of the Drunken Jihad Kollective a performance art group that was doing a skit about cannibalism that didn't make a lot of sense, but was funny from what I saw. I will have to try and catch their next show.

Next up was Naomi an electronic artist from San Diego. She sang to ipod backing tracks. I would call this bubble gum noise. Her music was sort of electroclash/glitch and the combo with her dancing and singing was bouncy.

Then came Can't. Can't is the solo project of Jessica Rylan from Boston. She plays homemade modular synths and she also played some acoustic guitar (not what I was expecting). She markets her modular synths under the name Flower Electronics. The beginning was sort of a low square wave, slowly pulsing, she seemed to have some problems with hearing the monitors. The next piece she used a microphone that was being ring modulated thru the synth. Again she wasn't happy with the sound. Then something wasn't working on the modular synth. I was not to impressed with her synth sounds and her performance was sort of lackluster. This could have been equipment failure driven, but if so she didn't deal very well. After she did some interpretive dance and played acoustic guitar.

I was a little disappointed both acts seemed short. But at least I got home in time to play more Wii.

Harsh!!!

Tonight after practice Grr and I will be heading out to Harsh at the Re-Bar. Its the noise/ noisy beats night that happens every third thursday. DJ's and some live performance. I haven't been to this one yet. Maybe I will have some pictures if my camera batteries charge in time. If they don't that will suck. Practice went great tonight. We will be playing at the studio next week to try and doo some tracking for a new cd type release with internet free downloads and other free stuff. Anyway enough babble I must head out to HARSH....
